Brine concentration

More water.
Less brine.

Evaluate additional water recovery from concentrate and reduce the residual liquid volume requiring downstream management.

Industrial water-treatment facility with pumps, pipes, and membrane pressure vessels.
Illustrative application setting; not a NEXT TFX installation.

APPLICATION NOTE

Define the opportunity.

TFX brine concentration reverse osmosis (BCRO) targets desalination concentrate, industrial reject, and other pretreated brines. The company portfolio includes high-, medium-, and low-rejection pathways for duty-specific process configurations.

This application note adapts the supplied company portfolio and brochure. The evaluation steps below describe how to scope a project; they are not a process-performance guarantee.

PROCESS CONTEXT

Connect membrane concentration to the next step.

Pretreated feed

Defined chemistry and process duty.

TFX membrane stage

Evaluate additional water recovery.

Concentrate

Meet the downstream feed requirement.

Further treatment

Evaporation, crystallization, or dedicated recovery as required.

Conceptual sequence only. The membrane permeate is a separate outlet; required polishing, stage recycle, and final configuration are duty-specific.

EVALUATION FRAMEWORK

Specify the feed. Define success.

  1. 01

    Start with the feed

Provide a complete analysis, flow rate, temperature, existing treatment train, and variability.

  2. 02

    Define both outlet requirements

Specify product-water quality and final concentrate requirements, not only a nominal recovery percentage.

  3. 03

    Compare complete processes

Use the same feed, recovery, final concentrate, and delivered water quality when comparing staging, recycle, and downstream treatment.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Keep the boundaries clear.

Can lower-rejection membranes simplify every brine duty?

No. Lower rejection changes the salt split and permeate handling. The complete process must meet both the water-quality and concentration requirements.

Is there a universal final brine concentration?

No. Feed chemistry, operating pressure, temperature, scaling, fouling, rejection, and process configuration determine the feasible endpoint. A brochure value is not a universal plant limit.
